I’ve been a fan of podcasts for several years and a regular consumer of many different ones. I’ve shared some of my favorites in past blog posts. My health IT favorites are the multiple shows that ThisWeekHealth offers.
While still an avid listener and consumer, I am also a regular contributor. Since 2022 I’ve been one of the Townhall show hosts for ThisWeekHealth. That means I’m committed to doing one interview a month with a health IT leader along with the 7 other hosts. New Townhall shows are aired every Tuesday and Thursday on the Conference Channel. I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing many current and former health IT leaders in the past year including:
- John Glaser, Executive in Residence at Harvard Medical School – “With a Lowercase R”: How to Transition to Retirement While Staying Engaged and Involved
- Cara Babachicos, CIO at Innovage – The Shift to Non-Acute Care & the Model’s Unique Challenges
- Saad Chaudhry, Chief Digital and Information Officer at Luminis Health – A Realigned Role, Generational Diversity, and Giving Back Time
- Ed Kopetsky, former Chief Information and Digital Officer at Stanford Children’s Health – How Lean Methodology Led to a Culture Change of Collaborative Problem Solving
- Heather Nelson, SVP and CIO, and Jonathan Brownstein, Chief Innovation Officer at Boston Children’s – The Effectiveness of Collaborating CIO Teams
- Lisa Stump, SVP and Chief Information and Digital Transformation Officer at Yale New Haven Health – An Innovation Center Collaboration & Empowering Women in Leadership
We have had so much to cover in my two most recent interviews that my guests each agreed to schedule a part 2. They have both been in their current CIO roles at large health systems for two years. My interview with Jeff Gautney, SVP and CIO at Rush University System for Health, AI Strategy and Insights from an Extensive Consulting Background aired last week and we will record part 2 next month. Jane Moran, Chief Information and Digital Officer at Mass General Brigham, and I spoke this week – that interview will be aired in the next few weeks and we will schedule a part 2 for 2024.
As of this year, I’m also one of the Executives in Residence at ThisWeekHealth along with Sarah Richardson, SVP and CDIO at Tivity Health. Bill Russell and his team are tapping into our expertise in multiple ways for the broader health IT community. One of those ways will be at the upcoming CHIME Fall Forum. Bill has asked us to help with the Interview in Action series he typically does at industry conferences. I’m looking forward to interviewing a number of health IT leaders at CHIME next month.
In this business, we need to be continual learners. Podcasts are a great way to keep up. They are easy to listen to – while you work out, commute or walk your dog. As a teaser for my interview with Jane Moran, one of our topics was upskilling staff – at Mass General Brigham she has everyone in IT devote one day a month to learning and development called “Work and Learn Day”. Hope you have your own strategy for being a continual learner and developing your teams.
